While we sincerely hope you will reach out to your therapist or loved ones, Valenta Mental Health for professional help, we know that sometimes it’s not convenient to do that.
Things you can do to help manage the stress and anxiety of COVID-19
Minimize reading, watching, or listening to media that increases feelings of excessive stress or anxiety.
When you do consume media, ensure it is a reputable and reliable source, or that it helps you to feel calm, uplifted, and content.
2. Reduce your social media intake.
The constant barrage of rumors, opinions, and disparagement on social media can add to the stress and anxiety one feels. If you are accessing social media, choose sites that are humorous, encouraging, or uplifting.
3. Try to ensure your time between work shifts is truly restful.
Of course, there is always work/chores at home to be done, yet we encourage you to find ways to take time for you to recharge. This can be done with your family members, friends, or solo – reading, taking a bath, a nap, listening to your favorite music, listening to an uplifting podcast or a funny YouTube video, etc.
4. Avoid unhelpful coping activities like alcohol and other drug use.
Other unhealthy coping mechanisms could include avoidance, isolation, or overindulgence like excessive eating, excessive exercising, or shopping behaviors. Strive for balance and healthy coping behaviors, like taking walks, stretching, or yoga activities that connect mind and body experiences together.
5. Make time for regular self check-ins to assess your mental and emotional wellness.
If you are concerned or feeling disconnected due to stress and overwhelm, call a friend for some accountability and set up a regular system of ‘checking-in’ with them.
